MANAGING YOUR WEBRING
MAKE A MEMBER SITE ACTIVE
When a member site joins a webring it is not automatically admitted, the ringmaster must approve it first. Upon joining,
member sites go into a queue of inactive sites. The ringmaster will receive an email message advising them when a
member site joins their webring.
Upon receipt of this email message, log in to your webring's admin (you can use the form box in the top right-hand
corner at the alt-webring.com site) and click the 'Inactive sites' button.
This will display a page listing the sites waiting in the queue for approval. In the entry for each site you'll see
links like 'activate', 'edit' and 'remove'.
If the member site has the navigation panel code installed and it qualifies for membership in your webring, click the
'activate' link and the site will then move out of the queue and become active.
If the site does not have the navigation panel code installed you can leave it in the queue and check it again later. If
the code does not appear on the member site after a period of time (how long is up to you) then a friendly email to the
member may be required to prompt them.
CHECK MEMBER SITE'S CODE
Check the entire webrings for correct HTML code on navigation panels. You can use the "Check
Sites" function for this. Sites move. Sites close. Members are not always careful to change
their site's information when moving to a new URL.
Do not let them 'break' your webrings. Set those sites to 'inactive' and email them gentle reminders that
they need to update their information.
Keep your ring's home page updated and error free.
Consider setting up a forum for your members, it's a great way to foster a community spirit!
Most of all...have Fun! :-)
