ABOUT ALT-WEBRING 27 January 2008 System clean up. Approx. 300 abandoned rings that were created between 2003 and 2006 have been deleted. 95% of them had no active sites and the rest had one or two active sites but there were no ring navigation panels on those sites so they are considered abandoned as well. Deleting these old rings will make the system run faster for the remaining active rings. 15 August 2007 Contact page removal. The alt-webring.com ring system has been a target of spammers for some time but lately the problem has become much worse. So it has become necessary to remove the contact form from the site to deter these low-lifes. I realise this is a drastic measure and my apologies to anyone affected, the contact form will be reinstated in a while when things have calmed down. If you have any difficulty with your ring management in the meantime please consult the help pages which contain answers to most problems you will encounter. 27 June 2007 System outage. The alt-webring.com ring system was inoperative for approx. 24 hours due to a corrupted system file. After much head scratching and fiddling I managed to tack down the problem and got it fixed. Apologies to anyone affected. 15 July 2006 Change to the Terms Of Service (TOS). A paragraph has been added to the TOS to prohibit the operation of Spam and Link Farm rings. See the bottom of the Terms Of Service page for more info. 25 June 2006 System clean up. I decided it was time to do some housework - a review of the alt-webring system showed approx. 500 rings but about 300 of those appeared to be abandoned (no member sites and no activity since creation). If your ring was deleted and you're prepared to have another go at it you are quite welcome to re-create your ring again. 28 April 2006 Change of directory listing policy. From now on, only rings with three or more member sites will be listed on the alt-webring directory page. All ringmasters on the system on the 22 March 2006 were advised of this change via email.
